Trip to Tofo - May 2013

Our next visit was to the beach resort of Tofo some 500 km or 6 -7 hour drive up the coast.  5 hours if Jane is driving.  A great place with an 8 km white sandy beach.  The lodge (Casabarry) where we stayed is also home to the Marine Megafauna Foundation doing reasearch and conservation work with Whale Sharks and Manta Rays which are common off the coast.
Our lodge was close to the beach and the centre of Tofo which is a lively but laid back little resort with a wide range of shops, hotels and restaraunts.  We went on a walk to a nearby headland to see the Monument of Fallen Heroes which commemorates people murdered by the Portuguese security police during the war for independence.  The police would chain suspected dissidents to the wall of a nearby coral sea cave (Barraco Dos Assasinatos or House of Murders) and leave them to drown or be battered to death by the incoming tide.  The base of the monument is said to contain several human bones recovered from the cave.

We found a heart shaped puddle

No idea what this was doing in the middle of Tofo
